The Innovator Instigating Litigating Legendary Al Davis!!!!
Al Davis, the legendary hall of fame owner has passed on to the great gridiron in the sky today at the age of the 82. Many things have been said of and by Al Davis, most famous motto he inpart created; ‘commitment to excellence’ and became to be known by, ‘just win baby’, to the “Man behind the shield” all encompassing force in professional football from top to bottom and not just in management, when I say ALL levels I mean from the field to the league offices. Let’s examine the facts;
Al D Facts –
Coach – of the Oakland Raiders turning them around from 1-13 in ’63 to a 10-4 the next as the youngest head coach-general manager in the history of the NFL. He was able to go where others wouldn’t hiring the first coaches of color; latino and black (eerrr african-american).
Evaluator of talent – Davis was able to spot the new and old talent and tell what they would be able to bring to the Raider team. Look above; he hired the first female CEO.
Innovator – Davis philosophy bordered on mystique; the aerial attack with cornerback play was the key to success and for his raiders it was law.
Executive – after becoming head coach-general manager, davis upped the ante by buying in, becoming the managing general partner a position held until Oct 8, 2011. Perhaps the greatest contribution to the professional game was the leadership he provided during his tenure as commissioner of the rogue American Football League in 1966 where his no-hold back pursuit of the best players ruffled the National Football League’s feathers and forced litigation (SURPRISE!!!) and eventually a merger with its rival competitor (POOOF!!!)…NEW and IMPROVED NFL born!!!
No facts could quell the noise even here by your own sportsfiend that Alice….errrr..uhmmmm Al Davis had trailed off to irrelevant in the years leading up to this opening season but there is no denying the brilliance and contributions will live on as long as there is the NFL, Oakland Raiders and those influence by the JUST WIN BABY!!!..many thanks Mr. Allen “Al” Davis 1929 – 2011.

More Milestonez & Records Set….

Because he’s an NFL kicker and NFL kickers get jack usually, & because he kicked a 61-yd field goal, Sebastian Janikowski is getting himself some “Jack” today. The 4th longest kick for goal in NFL history, Janikowski’s goal put Oakland up with 3 pts in the game, let’s see if its enough to put the Raiders in contention to win.
Terrell Owens caught his 1,000th pass as an NFL receiver during his time as 49er, Eagle, Cowboy & Bill. Owens joins some esteemed company; Jerry Rice, Tim Brow, Cris Carter, Marvin Harrison, Issac Bruce all have over 1,000 career receptions…wow!
